The Four "A's" of Personal Safety
- Be Aware (of your surroundings): Plan ahead for where you are going and what you will be doing. Carry a cell phone. Constantly assess situations. Look for points of escape. Avoid preoccupation.
- Alert: Predators will hunt in places where victims and opportunity regularly collide. Use the buddy system. Demonstrate an alert, strong persona.
- Avoid: Potential problem areas, secluded places where you can be put in a vulnerable position.
- Action: Understand your capabilities. Use common sense. Do NOT panic. Take responsibility for your own safety.
These preventative steps will prepare you and also will reduce the opportunity for an encounter.
