been super swamped lately, but here goes a blast from the past, in the sense that i knew these kids & they gave me this recording. i guess it was a limited edition thingy released on an obscure japanese label cuz even their most ardent fans don't seem to know about it. the original copy is still in storage [i hope!] but after wanting to hear this gem again for longer than i can remember, a new pal with exquisite taste recently reunited me with the thang. thanks kid! it remains me prevailing fav of los cincos' collaborations with april march. when songs you once loved can connect you to a particular place & thyme or represent a period of perceived freedom & possibility [& still manage to sound good over a decade later] perhaps they will remain special til yer dyin day. in these six numbers, the musicians show off their versatilty & broadening scope of teenage hipness, by jumping from chanteuse pop to balls out garage to space rock dronage. 'way up in the sun' is still as good as anything since & there are some simply stellar harmonies on here. if you dig psychedelique sunshine pop, it's a no-brainer. featuring the fine voices of petra & tanya haden & recorded by the great tom grimley. a funfilled, lite-hearted trip sure to brighten most any season. 320 rip
