Cross Country
The Staley Cross Country teams are off to a quick start this year. The girls team of Kristen Brosnan, Brianna Westervelt, Maddie Ramos, Allie Altenhofen, Lauren Sharp, Gabbie Ramos, and Gabbe Altenhofen have placed 1st in two meets and 2nd in three meets so far this season. The girls earned 1st place honors at the Missouri Cross Country Challenge as well as the Blue Springs Invitational.
On the boys’ side, Michael McCulloch has taken 1st place in the last two Varsity races he’s competed in, posting an excellent time of 16:40 on a difficult course at the Missouri Cross Country Challenge. He repeated at the Blue Springs Invitational.

Girls Golf
The four district high schools played golf at Staley Farms Sept. 22. Oak Park, Staley, Platte County and Liberty North competed against each other while North Kansas City and Winnetonka faced off against each other. Even though they didn’t have a complete team, Winnetonka’s Emma Wyndham had the lowest individual score, shooting a 46. Team scores were:

Soccer
North Kansas City laced up their boots and took to the pitch against St. Joe Central Sept. 20, earning a 3-1 win. Goals came from Josh Medina, Andrew Matheney and Brock St. Louis.
Oak Park traveled to Kearney on Sept. 16, suffering a loss on the road. Kearney got the best of the Northmen by a score of 3-2. Oak Park goals were scored by Ray Saari and Pierre Francois. On Sept. 20, the Northmen were back on the road, dominating Platte County 4-0. Ray Saari, Dylan Drambour, Rajko Radovic and Kolton Eisenberger each had a goal in the game. Matt Ebinger and Andrew Fishel shared the shutout in goal.
Winnetonka had an exciting week on the soccer field! On Sept. 14 the Griffins traveled to Raytown for the first of their conference matches. The team put on a scoring exhibition in the 6-0 rout of their opponent. The team scored three goals in the first half of play, and came back to score another three after the half. The midfield controlled possession of the ball and were backed up with solid defending. Dan Taylor led the way with 3 goals, followed by Andrew Martin with 2. Alex Frazier earned his first-ever Varsity goal. Duane Byrd led the defensive line, denying any scoring threats.
In a nail biter of a game on Sept. 16, Winnetonka played Park Hill South in what may be the match-up of the season. The two teams played to a draw in two overtime periods with the game coming to a decision on penalty kicks. The Griffins kept their cool and Conner Garcia put his team over the top for the win. Luke Cluts and Duane Byrd were defensive men of the match, supported strongly by outstanding performances from Scott G. Taylor and Kyle Lowe. Andrew Martin and Dan Taylor showed their leadership with communication and enthusiasm in the midfield. Alex Kirby and Louis Moehrle worked hard on the forward line to deny any attacks and set up scoring opportunities.
Softball
North Kansas City has had a busy week on the ball field. The Lady Hornets started it off right with a 16-9 win over Grandview. Senior MacKenna Nolan threw a complete game for the win, and was an offensive star going 3-for-4 with three runs, a single and two doubles. Other team performances were:

Samantha Reed (freshman): 3-for-4 with five RBI’s, two singles and a home run
Autumn McMullin (senior): 2-for-4 with an RBI and two singles
Jazmyn Holt (senior): 2-for-5 with two RBI’s and two singles
Maggie Brooks (freshman): 2-for-5 with a run and two singles
Amber Dobbins (senior): Scored two runs and stole a base
Jordan Knox (freshman): 1-for-4 with a run and two RBI’s
Kinzie Thompson (junior): Scored two runs and had one RBI
Over the weekend, Columbia Hickman traveled to North Kansas City for a game at Macken Park on Sept. 18. The Hornets lost 20-3. Senior Jazmyn Holt was 2-for-2, scored a run, had two RBI’s and hit for a single and a double. Senior Amber Dobbins was 1-for-1 with a single and an RBI. Senior Autumn McMullin was 1-for-1 with a single and a walk. Freshman Abbie Mason was 1-for-2 with a single and a run scored.
The Lady Hornets played again Sept. 21 with a 10-0 loss to Raytown, and Sept. 22 with an 11-2 loss to St. Joe Central.
Swim/Dive
The Staley Boys Swim & Dive team finished 4th in a field of 28 teams at the Columbia Invitational this past weekend. Top 8 finishers include:

Volleyball
Oak Park’s Varsity Volleyball team traveled to Kansas Sept. 11 and took 1st place in the Olathe South Tournament. The JV and Varsity teams continued their winning streak in regular season matches against Liberty North (JV 25-8, 25-12; Varsity 25-16, 25-16) and Grandview (JV 25-4, 25-13; Varsity 25-10, 25-5). The Lady Oakies Varsity team participated in the Lee’s Summit North Volleyball tournament Sept. 18, suffering a heartbreaker against Staley in the quarterfinal.
Staley’s Varsity Volleyball team finished 2nd at the Lee’s Summit North tournament, beating Columbia Rockbridge in the semifinal before losing to Lee’s Summit North in the final.
Tonight, in a home game against Fort Osage, Winnetonka’s Shelby Corkill will attempt to become the 13th player in state history to exceed the 1,000 kill mark. She currently sits at 998. Stay tuned for the big announcement and view photos from the big event!
