Funding Issues Top Legislative Platform for 2011

Funding and rules that impact it account for more than half the issues included in the 2011 NKC Schools Legislative Platform. Several of the position statements remain the same as last year. Some were reworded, and three are new:

• We support legislation that provides an avenue for new sources of revenue for public school districts. (NEW)
• We support claw-back provisions for existing tax incentives that are not meeting benchmarks for job creation, PILOTS or debt reduction. (NEW)
• We support summer school funding for its critical educational benefits including core subject remediation and mitigation of academic regression. (NEW)

The platform was recommended to the Board of Education by the District Legislative Affairs Advisory Committee and approved Nov. 9.
