Cup Winners' Cup 1962 1963 Tottenham Atletico Madrid

Final
15 May 1963
Feijenoord Stadion, Rotterdam

Attendance 49,000

Tottenham lifted their first piece of European silverware in impressive fashion by defeating holders Atletico Madrid 5-1 in the European Cup Winners' Cup final. To reach the final in Rotterdam, Nicholson's side had been irrepressible at White Hart Lane thrashing both Rangers and Belgrade. However, they were to show that they could do the same away from home too, putting five past the Spaniards. The incomparable Jimmy Greaves put Spurs ahead after 16 minutes before Scottish forward John White added a second before the break. Atletico pulled one back just after half-time but just as doubts began to creep in, Terry Dyson hit a brace with Greaves adding another goal ten minutes before time. Danny Blanchflower lifted the trophy as Spurs became the first English side to taste European glory...
