CommunityAmerica is gearing up for its second annual scholarship essay contest, held in conjunction with the Kansas City Federal Reserve’s Money Smart Week. Students in 6th through 8th grade have the chance to win one of three $1,000 scholarships as part of the Money Smart Kid essay contest!
Save these dates:
- February 22: Contest officially begins.
- March 24: Deadline for submissions.
- April 19: Winners contacted.
- April 23: Money Smart Week Kickoff Lunch—winners recognized.
Participation in the contest is simple and students have the chance to win a $1,000 scholarship from CommunityAmerica Credit Union, which will be placed in a 529 college savings plan. Additional information will be available online soon at:

Sign-Up for Soccer Fun with AYSO
In AYSO, fun, fitness and quality soccer combine for memories that will last a lifetime. AYSO has been the first name in youth soccer since 1964. Every child plays at least 50% of EVERY game. Spring Break Bowling Clinic
A new Spring Break Bowling Clinic, co-sponsored with Gladstone Bowl, offers something for every child regardless of skill level, from beginners to the experienced. Tips, tricks and techniques will be offered to improve your child’s game. The clinic is scheduled for Thursday and Friday, March 18 and 19 from 9 a.m. to noon.
Registration begins Monday, Feb. 8, and the sign-up deadline is Friday, Mar. 5. The clinic will be held at Gladstone Bowl, 300 N.W. 72nd Street in Gladstone. The program fee is $25 and includes a free snack and soft drink as well as shoe rental and use of the center’s bowling balls.
