Student Achievement Remains the Focus
With $9 million in potential budget cuts on the horizon for North Kansas City Schools, district leaders are holding four Community Conversations in coming weeks for parents and community members to hear how reductions can be made without impacting the classroom or increasing class sizes.
On February 9, the Board of Education received a list of possible cuts for the 2010-11 school year. School board members are studying the list and are slated to make a decision in March. The Community Conversations are designed to help parents and others understand potential cuts prior to the board’s decision.
One Community Conversation is scheduled for each of the four high schools, but anyone may attend any of the four sessions.
Feb. 22 – Staley High School, 7:30 p.m. in the Special Events Center
Feb 25 – Oak Park High School, 7 p.m. in the Auditorium
Mar 3 – Winnetonka High School, 7 p.m. in the Auditorium
Mar 8 – North Kansas City High School, 7 p.m. in the Auditorium
Dr. Todd White, superintendent of North Kansas City Schools, will explain what led to the need for cost reductions and the student achievement focus that is guiding the process. After the large group presentation, participants will be invited into smaller groups for further discussion. Questions will be collected at each session and responses will be posted on the district Web site.
Detailed information about potential budget cuts and other program change considerations are available on the district Web site at: http://www.nkcsd.k12.mo.us/.
