Since his death in 1991, Gainsbourg's music has er, been compiled to death but this is the ultimate one stop, one disc showcase of his talent. Featuring music from his best and most adventurous years, there is not a single filler to be found here, just 22 tracks of absolute genius. From the opening beats heavy Requiem Pour Un Con to the bass driven closer 'En Melody' this album shows why Gainsbourg is a national icon in his homeland and so beloved by DJs.
Freakbeat, breakbeat, funk, sitar, breathy female vocals (courtesy of Jane Birkin and Brigitte Bardot), classical / 'psychedelique' soundtrack arrangements [courtesy of Michel Colombier and Jean-Claude Vannier], trippy grooves and Gainsbourg's almost spoken vocals - it's all here and much more besides. Previously unreleased 'bonus beats' cuts for a couple of the more beats heavy tracks are also included.
wicked sick yet appallingly outta print collection of classique serge groovers. someone requested this monster in glorious ((( 320 ))) & i'm happy they did. twood now seem to be the definitive version of this stellar document on the greater piratical interwebs. too often bit rate seems to make no discernible difference to me but what we have hear is an undeniably essential upgrade. 320 daps to subvice
