Gerardo Murillo (October 3, 1875 - August 15, 1964) was an important figure in the 20th century intellectual climate of Mexico. He was an artist, philosopher, historian, writer, naturalist, volcanologist, and an ardent political critic with an extremely fascist lean. His "aeropaisajes" or air landscapes are his most interesting works. He would ascend a helicopter to sketch mountains and volcano craters, then return to the ground to paint landscapes from his sketches. For this reason, many of his landscapes have a curved horizon like the curvature of the earth and have a very powerful "gods'-eye" perspective.
