One of the finest displays of artistic and attacking football ever witnessed, the I960 European Cup Final was a Dreathtaking game which thrilled the huge crowd at Scotland's national stadium.
Although Frankfurt had proved they were one of the top teams in Europe, they were quite unable to deal with the imagination and wizardry of the magnificent Spaniards, in particular Di Stefano and Puskas. Although Frankfurt scored first after 20 minutes through a Kress volley at the near post, à Di Stefano shot from a Canario cross soon levelled the score. Three minutes later Di Stefano pounced again from dose range, and just on half-time a crashing left-foot angle snot from Puskas made it 3-1.  Ten minutes into the second half, a Puskas penalty sent the German goalkeeper Loy the wrong way, and shortly after it was Puskas again with an improbable header from a Gento cross.

 Then Puskas picked up his fourth goal, spinning round and siasting a shot into the top corner of the net. A Stein goal 15 miinutes from time restored some respectability to the Germans, but almost immediately a Puskas pass to Di Stefano made it three for the Argentinian master and seven for Real. Two minutes later Stein took advantage of a Real defensive blunder to grab a consolation goal for Frankfurt. However, the energetic and skilful German side, who had played well enough
probably to hâve beaten any other side in Europe, had been completely outclassed by the sheer brilliance of Real Madrid. Real went on a lap of honour around the old stadium. and the crowd rose in salute. It was to prove a magnificent swansong for Real, as the club's period of dominance was passing and the young pretenders of Benfica were waiting to seize the European crown. For Frankfurt, it was to be their last appearance in the European Cup.
