United have not won at Stamford Bridge for nine years, by far their longest winless away streak at any Premier League team’s ground. They did beat Chelsea 3-1 in the Community Shield, but Chelsea won both league fixtures last season, all but sealing the title with a 2-1 win at Old Trafford. With both sides looking to pack the central area, the role of the wide players assumes extra importance. Cole’s advances often he is the Chelsea player highest up the pitch – mean Nani will need to put in a decent defensive shift as well as being United’s main counter-attacking outlet. Cole needs to be alert to Nani’s lightning pace.
