 Roma go into tomorrow's clash at Bari confident they can claim the precious fourth place in Serie A by the end of the season. The Eternal City giants are sixth, four points behind fellow Champions League contenders Lazio with four games remaining. "We answered those people who had doubts about our team's quality by winning against Chievo last weekend,'' said Roma coach Vincenzo Montella. "I was convinced that I had a team in good form and that they would be able to prove it. After our setback against Palermo, it was important for us to get back to winning ways and we did just that. The game at Bari is crucial for our European ambitions. We know that we will have to battle with Lazio and (fifth-placed) Udinese in our last games for the last Champions League qualifying spot and we are ready for the task.''
Bari have nothing to play for except pride. The Galletti are already doomed to Serie B football, 24 months after gaining promotion to Italy's top flight. Last weekend's 1-0 defeat to Sampdoria was Bari's 21st loss of the campaign and left them at the foot of the standings, 14 points behind Samp, who hold the last position of safety. Bortolo Mutti's side have won only four times this season. Bari have the worst attack in the league with only 20 goals in 34 games, and one of the weakest defences, having conceded 49.

 The main rival of West Brom is Wolverhampton and the main rival of Aston Villa is Birmingham City. Still, the West Brom vs. Aston Villa is a very heated match. Villa has the biggest ground in the region and it had it's succes in the past. For the other clubs in the Midlands this is reason enough to not be 'friends' with them. Aston Villar is also closer to West Brom than Birmingham City which adds to the rivalry.
Following a recent bout of injuries, things look a little more promising for Villa. Martin Laursen, Carlos Cuellar and Gareth Barry all hope to be fit for Saturday’s game. Gabriel Agbonlahor should return from illness, while Wilfred Bouma and John Carew are still injured. Not heard a thing about Luke Young so I assume he’s shaken off his knock.

Villa will probably start with Brad Friedel in goal and Nigel Reo-Coker (or Carlos Cuellar), Curtis Davies, Martin Laursen (or Zat Knight) and Luke Young right to left across the back. Ashley Young, Gareth Barry, Steve Sidwell, Stiliyan Petrov and James Milner in the midfield and Agbonlahor up top, with Milner and Young providing support.
Gianni Zuiverloon and James Morrison are injury doubts for West Brom. Tony Mowbray has stated that Filipe Teixeira and Abdoulaye Meite are a couple of weeks from fitness, while Craig Beattie will be available following his manager’s decision not to loan him out again this season. Ishmael Miller is out for the long term, and Neil Clement is not fit.

A sense of calm continues to characterise Roberto Martínez but the Wigan manager knows that for all his team's stylistic virtues, now is the time for them to get ugly. They simply cannot replicate last week's crumble at Sunderland if relegation is to be avoided and against an Everton  side in the midst of its usual end-of-season flourish, the hosts must dominate from the outset. It helps Wigan that Maynor Figueroa is available again after suspension, although the visitors may be bolstered themselves by the return of Mikel Arteta. 

It wasn't the defeat at Sunderland, it was the manner of the defeat that was the disappointment after Roberto Martinez's side had begun to show signs of consistency. After taking the lead and controlling the game for the most part, it was that mad 10-15 minutes that followed that will need not to be repeated if Latics are to end the day on Saturday with all three points.
Aside from last weekend's defeat at the Stadium of Light, Latics have been in good form, but then again so have Everton - which is why this game has the ingredients to be a tense affair from start to finish.  Everton's run of good was was brought to an end last weekend with a narrow 1-0 defeat to title-favourites Manchester United, although they had a good shout for a penalty and frustrated Sir Alex Ferguson's side for much of the game.

  Sunderland and Fulham lock horns at the Stadium of Light on Saturday in a clash between two sides jostling for position in mid-table. Both teams had been involved in a congested scrap for survival just a week ago, but vital victories have lifted them to relative safety. The Black Cats ended a dismal run of eight defeats in nine games with a 4-2 success at home to struggling Wigan last Saturday, propelling them past the 40-point barrier. They are now seven points clear of the relegation zone with just four games remaining and will be determined to finish the season strongly to get back on track ahead of next term. Steve Bruce will have to contend with a striker shortage during the run-in, though, after losing his last pair of recognised frontmen during the clash with Wigan.
Asamoah Gyan and Danny Welbeck are unlikely to play again this season and Fraizer Campbell is out for a year, while even youngster Ryan Noble damaged a knee on youth team duty earlier this week. Benin international Stephane Sessegnon is the main candidate for a lone role up front, while full-back Phil Bardsley has recovered from the bout of concussion he suffered against Wigan. John Mensah and Anton Ferdinand are being assessed, but Kieran Richardson is likely to miss out and Titus Bramble, Craig Gordon and David Meyler remain on the sidelines.

Fulham are a point better off than Sunderland on 42 and manager Mark Hughes has set his sights on a top-half finish after some encouraging recent performances. The Cottagers needed a late Andrew Johnson strike to salvage a 1-1 draw against Wolves last weekend despite dominating much of the game at Molineux. But Fulham then produced an even more impressive display in midweek to overcome Bolton 3-0 and effectively secure their top-flight status for next season. Hughes has been able to select a settled side over the past few weeks and is unlikely to tinker too much for the trip to Wearside. Bobby Zamora will hope to earn a recall to the starting XI after being restricted to a couple of cameos from the bench following a back problem. Philippe Senderos was an unused substitute against Bolton as he continues to work his way back to full fitness having missed the entire season to date.

 Samedi, Kevin Grosskreutz a quitté la pelouse dans un état second et le crâne à moitié rasé. Le milieu international du Borussia (22 ans, 3 sélections) avait promis de se mettre la boule à zéro pour célébrer le titre de champion d'Allemagne. Il tenait à manifester son attachement à un club dont il a toujours été un fervent supporter. Dans la folie générale d'une fin d'après-midi jaune et noir, le Brésilien Felipe Santana s'est donc procuré une petite tondeuse de coiffeur... qui est tombée en panne avant d'être venue à bout de la tignasse de l'une des révélations de l'année. À 17 h 18, la victoire du Borussia (2-0), conjuguée à la défaite de leverkusen (0-2) à Cologne, avait déclenché une immense onde de bonheur collectif. Avec huit points d'avance à deux journées de la fin du Championnat, Dort-mund a été sacré champion d'Allemagne pour la septième fois de son histoire (après 1956, 1957, 1963, 1995,1996 et 2002). Dans un stade à guichets fermés pour la douzième fois de la saison, joueurs et spectateurs ont alors longuement partagé une joie communicative. Il était 18 h 25 lorsque la fête improvisée a pris fin, avant de s'étirer bruyamment vers les rues du centre-ville, où cent mille personnes ont trinqué jusqu'au bout de la nuit.

« C'est la plus belle performance de l'histoire du club, aussi loin que je puisse me souvenir », s'est exclamé Michael Zorc. L'hommage du manager sportif du Borussia, vainqueur de la Ligue des champions en 1997 (3-1 face à la Juventus Turin), n'est pas anodin. En mars 2005, le club était au bord de la faillite après avoir vendu son propre stade puis cumulé un déficit de plus de 150 M€. 

 Pour ne pas replonger dans la crise financière, le BvB a rompu avec les extravagances des années 1990 et,depuis cinq ans, n'a plus déboursé plus de 5 M€ pour un transfert. Arrivé à l'été 2008, Jûrgen Klopp en est convaincu ; la réussite de son équipe est un défi aux lois du football-business: « Ce succès est celui d'un groupe jeune et très réceptif, qui a battu en brèche l'idée selon laquelle il faut de l'argent et des stars pour avoir du succès ». La part du budget du club consacrée aux salaires (34,5 M€) est ainsi la neuvième de la Bundesliga. Et la moyenne d'âge de l'équipe qui s'est imposée à Munich (3-1, le 26 février) était de moins de vingt-trois ans. Klopp, qui se définif comme un ii accompagnateur de joueurs portés par le désir de fonctionner ensemble et dans le respect de l'autre », revendique ce pari sur « des joueurs qui ont du talent mais aussi assez de caractère pour avoir envie de progresser ». 

 Derrière ces mots, le Borussia a su mettre des statistiques éloquentes : 22 victoires en 32 journées, meilleure attaque (64 buts) et meilleure défense (19 buts) de Bundesliga. Dans un 4-2-3-1 où le pressing est l'affaire de tous, Dortmund a tout bousculé sur son passage, prenant la tête du Championnat dès la huitième journée. « Maisiln'esîpasquestionde changer notre stratégie, a prévenu Zorc. Nous allons essayer d'améliorer l'équipe mais nous n'allons pas tout bouleverser. » Le budget global va être porté de 100 à 150 M€. Les contrats des multiples trouvailles de Klopp (Gôtze, Bender, Subotic, Grosskreutz, Hummels) ou des joueurs clés (comme le gardien Weindenfeller, 30 ans) ont été renouvelés très tôt dans la saison. Seul le cas du milieu Nuri Sahin (22 ans, sous contrat jusqu'en 2013) reste en suspens. Une clause libératoire lui permet de quitter le club moyennant une somme évaluée à 8 M€ en cas d'offre venue de l'étranger. « Mais nous allons discuter avec lui », affirme Zorc. Après l'Allemagne, Dortmund a maintenant l'intention de se faire mousser en Europe.
