Winnetonka Swimmers Send a Piece of Home to Troops for the Holidays

At Winnetonka, the Girls Swimming and Diving team works to build champions of character in the pool, classroom and life. Each year the team completes a community service activity by participating in canned food drives, working at local food banks, and adopting families in need for Christmas. This year’s community service activity takes place Friday, Dec. 3, as the team prepares seasonal care packages for military troops serving overseas.

The girls identified Winnetonka students who have parents or relatives on activity duty in Iraq or Afghanistan, while also adopting a frontline medical trauma/first responder unit based in Afghanistan. They collected used reading materials from students and faculty to include in the packages. They also will prepare homemade cookies and treats to send along with cards, photos and other items for troops who cannot be home for the holidays.
