To increase students' spelling abilities and familiarity with academic vocabulary related to MAP testing, Maple Park Middle School hosted an 8th Grade Spelling Bee featuring 20 semi-finalists competing for three top spots. After a tremendous effort by all 20 students, the top three spellers were: DeAntra Roberts, 1st place; Elizabeth Allen, 2nd place; and, Jeremy Arts, 3rd place. Principal Kevin Kooi awarded prizes to the winners. Assistant Principal Steve Evans made an appearance as the school’s celebrity judge, and Communication Arts teacher Mrs. Jo Read was the pronouncer/co-judge.
