The new version of Photoshop supports a 32 bit 'HDR' format that allows one to combine many varying exposures of the same image into one image with a 'High Dynamic Range'. With a little patience and experimenting, this format has alot of potential to eleviate problems shooting scenes with very bright or very dark areas.
