DISTRICT ACTIVITY UPDATE

Northtown Students Compete in FBLA Regional
North Kansas City High School’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) club participated in regional competition last week. Top finishers included Ron Wilson and Shawn Taylor who earned 1st place in Digital Design. Taylor also finished first in Business Presentation. Both are now headed to state level competition. Other student competitors at regional’s were Alex Olson in Business Law, and Sierra Davis and Jamela Johnson in Business Ethics.


Volleyball Players Earn Academic All-American Honors
The following volleyball players from North Kansas City Schools have earned Academic All-American honors for the 2010-11 school year. Honorees must be varsity players who competed in at least 75 percent of their team’s total varsity matches with a cumulative grade point average of 3.6 of higher after first semester.

District Wrestlers Excel at State Meet with 6 State Champs
Wrestlers from North Kansas City Schools had a successful weekend at the State Wrestling Tournament in Columbia and several brought home individual state championships. Oak Park and Staley wrestle in Class 3. Northtown and Winnetonka are in Class 4.

Girls State Swimming Results
The Missouri Girls Swimming and Diving championships were held in St. Peters last weekend. Staley’s team took 27th. Oak Park took 44th.

Tonka Trial Team Qualifies for State
On Thursday, Feb. 17, the Winnetonka Mock Trial Team beat Van Horn High School on a 3-0 decision at the Regional Mock Trial competition. This victory secured the team a spot at the state tournament in St. Louis at the end of March. Students will battle schools from all over Missouri as they vie for the State Mock Trial Championship, and a chance to compete at the National Mock Trial Competition in Phoenix in May.

Team members include: Maggie Acosta, Karelis Alfonso, Sammie Dukovich, Todd Eacret, Mackenzie Mehlfhaff, Tanner Owens and Joey Wolfe. The team is coached by teacher Jeri Willard and attorney Steve Wolfe.
