FROM OUR COMMUNITY

National Kids to Parks Day, Dedication of New Playground at Happy Rock
The National Park Trust, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and protection of our nation’s critical parklands and reconnecting our youth, will launch their first National Kids to Parks Day May 21, 2011.

Mayor Barry McCullough and the Gladstone City Council invite you to attend the dedication of the new play structure at Happy Rock Park-East, 76th and NE Antioch Road at 10 a.m. on the 21st. This playground was funded through a partial grant from the Land Water Conservation Fund and the Capital Improvement Fund of the city.

If you have questions or need additional information, please contact Sheila Lillis, Director of the Gladstone Parks & Recreation Department at (816) 423-4090 or sheilal@gladstone.mo.us.

Strive to Thrive
The 2011 Gladstone friendly walking and nutrition challenge is about to begin. Team Captains may now pre-register their teams online. Strive To Thrive will run from May 22 through June 18, and is a 4-week friendly competition amongst small teams of businesses, civic groups, churches, neighborhoods and other community groups within the City of Gladstone. There will be two winning teams – the group with the highest average number of walking minutes (per participant) and the group with the highest average number of fruits/vegetables consumed daily. Save a spot for your team at www.gladstone.mo.us.
