5K Raises $13,000 for NKC Schools and Education Foundation

Nearly 300 participants and dozens of volunteers turned out for the third annual RUN NKC Schools 5K held May 22 at North Kansas City High School. The 5K began and ended at the District Football Stadium, with the course winding through Macken Park and residential areas of North Kansas City.

Liban Samatar, an Oak Park freshman, crossed the finish line with a time of 17:29.9. He was closely followed by Austin Lynn, a 2009 Oak Park graduate, and Kyle Bremer, a Liberty High School student. District special education teacher Heidi Englert was the top female finisher with a time of 18:50.9. She placed fifth among all participants.
