Gracemor Students Make Strides in Reading, Wellness

Gracemor Elementary students know that reading is an important predictor of school success, and they have been tracking how much they read this year. Parents signed a compact agreeing to help their child read a minimum of 32 books at home. As a result, students have currently read more than 54,520 books this school year.

In addition, Gracemor had another goal to improve their health and wellness. Each day, at the beginning of recess, students would walk laps around the playground. Five laps around the playground equaled a mile, and school clerks logged the laps walked. Students and staff walked a total of 25,444 miles this year, amounting to 8½ times across the United States or once around the equator.
