A bit of history of mountain bikes

Shock absorption system in a bike seems be a modern invention, but not everybody knows that over 100 years ago appeared patented system of front and rear suspension.
The first patents of suspension was already notified in department of patents in 1890-1900. One of them was notified in 1891, project of bike with front absorber, authorship W.Scantlebury. The saddle and cranks were fastened on solid to rear wheel. When we was driving on an obstacle, front wheel was jumping and bend a spring located over the cranks. This bike existed also in version driving by handles fastened to a saddle, suitably connected by switch with the front wheel. (Similar systems are today in some models of level bikes.)

With the end of 19th century joni many patented solutions based not only on springs, but also bended metal elements with utilization hinges, giving feeling bend on an obstacle.
The fact is, that fans and constructors those times wiped routes the technical thought for today's bike industry. Despite, that these inventions probably never appeared in general use, they warranted their creators a place in creating the history of mountain biking.
